What Chester Concrete Is Usually Hiding

Chester is an old river city, and its concrete reflects that. The rowhome blocks off Ninth and Edgmont sit on slabs poured decades before anybody thought about vapor barriers, so those floors pull moisture up out of the ground year round. That single fact decides more coating jobs here than color ever does. A garage or basement slab in that stock gets a moisture reading before we quote a system, because a coating laid over a slab that is actively wicking will lift in sheets inside a year no matter how good the product was.

The industrial and warehouse stock along the waterfront is a different problem. Those floors were finished hard and then worked hard, and most carry some combination of old sealer, mastic from tile that came up years ago, and oil that soaked in before anybody thought to degrease. None of it stops the job, but all of it changes the prep. Diamond grinding opens the surface and takes off whatever the last owner rolled on, and the profile underneath is what the new system actually bonds to.
